Little Leaf #1 Run – Glen Lyon

Run date 30/7/24 Tom Sutherland

Good weather was promised by run leader Ian Ness and good weather was delivered.
It was already shaping up nicely as 6 bikes and 7 adventurers gathered at the Crieff Visitor Centre. Special mention to Ben who travelled up from Troon.
Ian Mackintosh volunteered to be TEC with Sue riding pillion as co-pilot/photographer, which left David, Ben, Kenny and myself to make up the numbers.
Starting off up the Sma Glen there was very little traffic and we managed a comfortable and enjoyable pace. Turning up Glen Quaich, we only met one car (travelling in the opposite direction) and again made good progress.
Ian stopped us at the cattle grid just before the 2 tight hairpins so he could go ahead and set up to film us. Perfect opportunity to fall off and star in a “motorcycle fails” video, so no pressure. But of course, being the technically adept Motorcycle Gods that we are, we swept through the hairpins with graceful precision. Maybe next time Ian.
So it was on through Kenmore to Glen Lyon. The Glen Lyon road has recently been resurfaced leaving loose surface gravel particularly in the middle. This slowed the pace down as we all concentrated on our line with eyes on the road surface at all times. I wonder what the views were like.
After a very nice relaxed lunch at the beautiful setting of Bridge of Balgie Post Office, we headed over the hill to Lawers Dam where we stopped for a photo op. Again the road has been recently resurfaced but ‘graceful precision’ was maintained by all. Back on the main road to Killin it was nice to let the bikes stretch their legs a bit, but of course, this didn’t last long.
Turning right from Killin before reaching the Falls of Dochart we took a wee narrow road that most of us hadn’t been on before. It was a little bumpy to begin with (I had to stop and count my teeth), but it soon levelled out and looped round to meet the main road to Oban.
From there we had a straightforward run past Lix Toll, down Glen Ogle, along the north shore of Loch Earn to Tullybannocher which unfortunately was closed.
We headed off home from there in our various directions, happy to have taken advantage of the good weather and glad we still had our teeth.
Thanks again to Ian Ness for planning and leading another great wee run.

Excellent report on the Little Leaf run, Tom. It was a great day out with the group, with a healthy bit of concentration required despite the modest average speed registered! 😂
Nice to see Ben again. I hope you felt it justified your journey out from Troon, Ben! Thanks to Ian for planning & leading the run and to Ian & Sue for TEC/photography duties. 👍

Very good Tom, just like yesterday’s ride! We both really enjoyed ourselves amongst good company and fun banter. Thanks to Ian for organising and leading the run. Looking forward to the video, thankfully with no hairpin tumbles.
