About Peter

Currently I hold the Chairmans position, this is third committee position I have held.

I started biking back in 1994, as an alternative to commuting to work in a car. All year round, all weathers, including snow in the early days!. It was only when my kids were older did I get the itch about riding further afield.

Currently I have a BMW R1250RT (2025) and a Vectrix VX-1 (electric scooter, 2008 (with over 59k miles on the clock)).

The thing I like most about the SMC is the adventure. Meeting all the different people, looking over the bikes, all the different roads and destinations that we explore as a group. Every time we meet is different, is very enjoyable.

About Ken
I passed my bike test in Feb 1977, on a Yamaha RD200, which was followed by a Suzuki GT500A, a Honda CX500, then a Yamaha XS750. A change in priorities around 1980 (Shift work, marriage, kids, Scottish winters etc) meant a transition to four wheels, so the bike had to go. Running a car AND a bike was financially impossible back then.

Following a long stint of living and working in the Middle East, I finally managed to return to biking in 2000, with a Honda CB600F and joined the SMC shortly thereafter.

I persevered with the Honda for a couple or three years, until my wife, Fiona, started to join me as a pillion regularly, at which time I moved to a BMW R1100RS. This served us well on many a club run, and our first biking trip to France. In 2010 I swapped out the RS for a low mileage R1200RT. We had many great trips on that RT between 2010 and 2015, including Ireland, Italy, Wales, and all the club challenges.

In 2015 I bought my current bike, a BMW R1200RT LC, which was only my second brand new bike (CX500 in 1978 was my first), and we have had this one as far into Europe as Croatia, and as far North to the Arctic circle in Norway, with many other interesting destinations in between. I occasionally toy with the idea of changing the RT for something else but simply taking it out for a wee run always changes that notion. I just like it too much.

I have in the past been a committee member, and Chairman, for the club but had to give up these roles about ten years ago when my job at the time started to entail a lot of travel and time away from home. However, now that such distractions are well behind me now, I have taken on the role as Membership Secretary..

At present the Club does not have an active Runs Co-ordinator. Chairman Peter Johnson is fulfilling this role for now.

About Ian
I joined The Scottish Motorcycle Club in 2018, following a return to motorcycling after a 10 year break. At that time, I was looking for a club that would suit my style of biking.

I’m very pleased to say that it fulfilled that need, and so much more.

I’m currently the Club Treasurer, and have held that roll since the AGM in 2021.

I’ve been riding bikes on and off for over 50 years. The very day I turned 16, I was on the road. It was easy then, you simply bought a bike, slapped on some L plates, and wobbled off down the road. There was no such thing as training in those days.

I currently have three bikes which are all used on club events.

2022 Royal Enfield Classic 350
2010 Triumph Bonneville SE 865
2025 BMW F900XR

What I enjoy most about the club, is the diverse range of events that have taken place over the years. Runs, weekends away, camping weekends, social evenings the Annual Challenge and more.

But best of all, was sharing those moments with so many friendly club members.

Joining The Scottish Motorcycle Club was without doubt, one of the best decisions I’ve made.

About Kenny
I passed my motorcycle test in 1975 after doing a RAC training course. My first bike was a Yamaha RD200, followed by a Suzuki GT500A, another 2-stroke, which I loved. I then had a huge break in biking from 1980 to 2004.

My youngest brother started biking in 2000 (age 37!!) and after having a shot of his Kawasaki Z750, my back-to-biking seed was sown. A few years later, as my children discovered their independence, my wife Ali and I did an organised biking trip in India. Fortunately, I did a sensible motorbike refresher course first, then bought a Yamaha Fazer 600, which enabled several months of important road miles before the big trip.

A Suzuki GSX R600, a Triumph Tiger 1050 and seven years later, Ali and I were made redundant and decided to take early retirement. I found that my biking buddies from work moved to pastures new, leaving me at a bit of a loose end. I became a SMC member in August 2012….a great decision!

After another Triumph Tiger 1050 Sport then a couple of years on a Ducati 950s Multistrada. I’m now back with Triumph – a lovely Tiger 900GT Pro. In every way, coming back to biking has been a fantastically rewarding decision.
