Glencoe run

Run date 18.10.26 Peter Johnson

Three of us signed up to the “first frost bite run of the season”?, Kenny Anderson, Ali Lazizi and myself.
It was misty with sub zero temperatures as we left Dobbies Stirling, and with occasional brief spells of sunshine the poor weather conditions continued all the way to The Green Welly for a leg stretch.
Beyond The Green Welly the mist disappeared, the temperature kept climbing all the way to 7 degrees by the time we reached our lunch stop at Crafts & Things, Glencoe.
Continuing our journey westward and then south to Connel, and back to The Green Welly for a debrief. From there, back to Dobbies Stirling, and we all headed for home.
Despite the cold conditions at the beginning, everyone enjoyed the run, great roads, good food, and as always, pleasant company. Thank you Ali & Kenny.

Great day. Thank you Peter and Kenny for your company and the opportunity to test my new bike. And a very comfortable experience it was. Despite the frosty weather in the morning, the scenery was just stunning; the mist adding an extra dimension to the beauty of the landscape. Muchas gracias amigos.

As Peter suggested, the “First frostbite run” was an appropriate label for the Glencoe Run. Everyone knows that it’s chilly at 0°C but when you’re on a motorbike “chilly” is a fairly inadequate word! It had been a couple of weeks since I’d last had a run on my bike, so I’d been a bit too casual about the kit I started out in. By the time we got to Tyndrum I was freezing. Fortunately, I’d forgotten to fuel-up before I left, so I’d the ‘running on fumes’ experience to distract me until we got to the Green Welly. I had my winter gloves and another sweatshirt in my top-box, so that saved the day!
Leaving the picturesque but freezing mist behind, we headed on to Glencoe. Always a spectacular sight but looking more rugged and imposing now the greenery had died back. The hills and glens of Scotland were looking their best with the autumn colours. Following the road along Loch Linnhe we were treated with a fantastic view down the glen, taking in the iconic Castle Stalker, on a little island at Appin. The rest of the run back via Connel, Dalmally and Crianlarich continued to excel. Big thanks to Peter for leading a great ride-out and to both Peter and Ali for excellent company.
