Mon-u-mntal Run

Run date Sunday 12 May John Hill

On a bright morning for the start at Bowtrees Services, there were only 3 of us; myself who had an easy job being TEC, Alex Cowie who was always in the middle of the group, and Ewan Ritchie who was leading a Club run for the first time.
What an excellent route Ewan had worked out for us, with a mixture of all types of road. I think his sat nav worked wonders, as there were so many different parts to a full day on the road and we never got lost.
After the quiet roads around Kirriemuir to visit the Scott Wilson memorial, we headed to the cool coast and Johnshaven, where we had an excellent lunch in the Hidden Treasure Cafe and a good chat. (I can recommend this cafe). Then it was south to Montrose and the Bamse Memorial and petrol at the nearby Shell garage. Next to Dundee and across the Tay Bridge to the Jim Clark Statue. Onwards to our 4th challenge stop at the Jim Baxter statue where we had our only rain of the day. Heavy storms were forecast and this was one of them. Luckily there was shelter there and by the time we had got all our water proofs on, the rain stopped.
Ewan lead us back towards the start at Bowtrees where we each peeled off to go home.
I think Ewan was pleased to get his first lead ride under his belt and he says he will now look forward to doing more! Thanks also to Alex for completing the good company of the group.
