The weather forecast was good and as Janet was booked on a Spa Day with our daughter, I was allowed out on my own. Seven of us gathered at the Crieff Visitor Centre, three Triumphs, one BMW, one Suzuki, one Honda and one KTM.
Ian took the lead and David McWilliam rode as TEC. We headed West through Comrie, St Fillans and along the North side of Lochearn and then through Killin and along the North side of Loch Tay. I was riding just in front of David but could still hear the fantastic sound coming from Grant’s Triumph Scrambler 1200 which was four bikes in front! We took a left turn just before Kenmore, then another left onto the Schiehallion Road towards Kinloch Rannoch. Unfortunately, there was a low cloud and we couldn’t quite see the summit of Schiehallion. At Kinloch Rannoch we followed the South side of Loch Rannoch to Bridge of Gaur, then turned left for the final stretch to Rannoch Station, our lunch stop at the station cafe. When we arrived at the station there was a Pullman Train sitting at the platform. It all looked very posh, with very smart staff stood at the doors. Must be a great way to travel, but not as good as being on a bike! The lunch was really good and the table service was excellent. By the time we were ready to head off the clouds had lifted and the run back along the North side of Loch Rannoch gave us spectacular views of the loch and the unmistakable profile of Schiehallion. After Tummel Bridge, we did hit a slight hiccough with a road closure, but Ian expertly guided us through without any drama. The final stretch took us through Aberfeldy and down through Amulree and the Sma Glen to our end point back at the Crieff Visitor Centre. Many thanks to Ian for organising this run along some brilliant motorcycling roads and to Ian, Grant, Gerti, Frank, John and David for the great company on a great day to be out on the bikes.
