Almost May for the most part, wet, cold but on the plus side 4 distilleries were visited via some winding roads some untravelled and the sun came out at 4:30 pm.
Dobbies garden centre Stirling car park for 9:30 depart. By the time we reached the car park decision had been made, water proofs on.
We headed up the motorway and peeled off for Crieff, then Aberfeldy. A well used road, over the top of the hills.
Once at Aberfeldy we stopped for a short comfort break before heading out of Aberfeldy following the river, past the Whisky distillery. To join the A9 for a short stretch before taking a right hand off the A9 into some rural roads.
Eventually Persie Distillery. We did not go into the distiller but took a picture to record the event at the entrance.
Next to Glamis. Well through the main gate, hanging a sharp right and to “The Bothy Experience” We did not go in to the distillery. Pictures taken we headed on to Montrose and Tescos where the promise of food and petrol was to be had. Despite being a Tesco super super market or something, no fuel. Still none of the bikes were empty. Something to eat. Then a short ride to the petrol station before heading onwards.
Next stop The Arbikie Experience, the Arbikie Highland Estate Distillery, Arbikie Distillery. This was south of Montrose. Gravel car park. Then to Dundee and across the Tay bridge.
We made our way South through the twisty coastal roads to arrive at Darnley’s distillery. Another gravel car park. But no problem to the pro’s at SMC. We said our good byes at Darnley’s 5pm.
Over all a good mix of roads. Lots of B roads, with occasional duel carriage way. We only got lost once at Glamis and no big deal. An interesting route and 4 distillery challenges completed.
Thanks Peter for leading the run today.
