The SMC Challenge
The Scottish Motorcycle Club is pleased to announce a new event for 2007 intended to encourage riders to visit parts of Scotland they would perhaps not otherwise see. Called the SMC Challenge, the event comprises 50 clues to locations all over Scotland. Entrants have until the end of September to solve the clues and visit all the locations. Because the locations are scattered all over the country, the event is perhaps more suitable for riders of touring machines, although there are no restrictions on the type or size of bike. Anyone succeeding in visiting every location will receive the SMC Challenge Medal with other awards being given to the top 50% of the finishers.
The difference between this event and a rally is that the locations can be visited in any order and at any time without the pressure of making deadlines, target times etc (apart from completing it before the end of September) but with a mild element of competitiveness and a sense of achievement. Weekend riders will be able to plan their outings to suit themselves whilst the event could be completed as a touring holiday.
Scotland has some of the best biking roads in the United Kingdom. The combination of magnificent scenery, type of road and lack of traffic make long distance riding a real joy and whilst many bikers do get out on a sunny Sunday, they tend to stick to broadly the same routes. Riders in this event will cover all parts of the Country and see and maybe learn more of this bikers paradise!
