About the club

The Scottish Motorcycle Club is for bikers (either sex, any age and any bike) who enjoy responsible motorcycling and the company of others like them. The club was founded in February 2000 but most of the first members were keen and experienced bikers who had already been on many runs together over several years. There were many memorable trips, many friendships made, and we aim to continue that. New members are warmly welcomed!

The Scottish Motorcycle Club holds monthly meetings at which all members are encouraged to contribute their ideas, suggestions and experience. There is also plenty of time for informal discussions and the welcoming of new members. The SMC recognises that not all members are able to attend these meetings, so a monthly newsletter with news of members, events and activities is sent to all members monthly.

During the summer months from April to October (and beyond for those willing to brave the elements), we organise 10-20 evening, Sunday, weekend and foreign trips. Runs vary in length and location around Scotland and exploit our members' combined local knowledge. There's sure to be a rideout to suit every taste whether you like fast-flowing twisties or a more relaxed pace on rural single-tracks.

All rideouts are led by experienced organisers and are open to all club members. An important part of all our runs are the frequent meal and coffee stops to give you ample opportunity for chatting about the run, the route, the weather, the bikes, the stories and anything else that seems fun.

The Scottish Motorcycle Club is managed on behalf of members by a Committee consisting of: a Chairperson, Editor, Events Co-ordinator, Membership Secretary, Meetings Secretary, Treasurer and WebMaster who are elected by a ballot of members (present or postal) at the AGM (Annual General Meeting) held in the first quarter of each year. The Chairperson may co-opt members to the Committee to fill these or other vacancies until the next AGM.

The annual subscription is £12 (including monthly newsletter) for the year. Other members at the same address pay £6 (without newsletter). The SMC is independent and non-profit-making, so all the subscriptions are used for the benefit of our members. If you like the sound of all this, we hope you will join us. We think you will enjoy it!
