June Jaunt

Run date 1st June 2024 John Moss

What a great day we had! The weather was perfect and Kona’s route through rural Perthshire was an absolute treat. Six of us met at the Crieff Visitor Center (Kona, Patrick, John (Hill), Norman, Janet and John (Moss)). We departed the Center around 10:15 and headed North past Amulree and on to Aberfeldy, crossing the Tay and heading West past the Fortingall Yew Tree (Considered to be one of the oldest trees in Britain!), then on to our first stop at The Glen Lyon Post Office. There were hundreds of cyclists in the area, so the tearoom was very busy, but we managed to get a table outside and had our coffees and a scone for Mr. Hill. Norman also bought a couple of Gluten Free cakes to take away for his wife, which would certainly gain him some valuable brownie points if he managed to get them home untouched! From the coffee stop we headed South past Lochan na Lairige and the Ben Lawers Dam and on to Killin where we looped back to Aberfeldy and onwards to our lunch stop at Nae Limits in Ballinluig. This was the first time Janet and I had been to this place and must say we’ll definitely go back as the food was superb, I particularly enjoyed the Deli Panini. Post lunch we headed up to Pitlochry and after a short stretch on the A9 we headed West again, this time along the south side of Loch Tummel. The views over the Loch were terrific. Even more so in the perfect weather with which we were blessed. Progress along this part of the route was hampered slightly by some dodgy car parking and poor use of passing places, however we made it safely to Tummel Bridge and onwards, stopping briefly before Dunalastair Water for a photo of the bikes with Schiehallion in the background and then onwards to Kinlock Rannoch. Here we took the Schiehallion road ending back on the B846 for the third time that day (not that I’m complaining!) Our final stop was at Highland Safaris for afternoon coffees. Here Janet and I said our farewells as time was getting on and we’d be getting home well after wine o’clock! Thanks again to Kona for organising the day and Patrick for keeping us all together. Janet and I agreed that it was a fantastic day with a top notch standard of riding and very enjoyable company.

Belated thanks for the report John! It was indeed a great day out, and I too was impressed by the food at Nae Limits – Deli Bagel in my case! Will try to organise another run later in the summer.

Great report John, on a great run Kona, and great company. I really enjoyed my day, and two new roads for me and 2 new coffee stops/cafes, which I must visit again.

Unfortunately one of our guys was running a bit late and we missed the start, My apology’s! Retrospectively we should have just caught up but we went to the lunch stop instead and waited there but it was WAY to hot so we gave up and went elsewhere! next time guys ( and we will get there early ) !!!
