SMC Treasure Hunt

Run date 20.08.23 Peter Johnson

A long-awaited return to the SMC Calendar was the SMC Treasure Hunt, with the weather forecast a little dubious, three keen SMC’ers took up the challenge arriving at McDonalds, Halbeath Leisure Park.
We were greeted by Ken & Fiona Eddie and members of their family + dogs, and at the strike of 09:45 the clues were duly handed out.
Making myself comfortable at McDonalds with a beverage I set about deciphering the clues.
Ian Ness was the first to leave, followed shortly after by Mark Watson.
I appeared to take a very long time to work out the clues, plotting the route etc… Even all the Eddie family left before I did.
Picked up the first few clues very quickly, all on track time wise, until I came across a road closed sign. I about turned (did the others do that???) and changed the order of my destinations, but time got away from me and I had to miss the last destination in order to reach the lunch stop on time without penalty. I did with a minute to spare.
Steve Mid joined us for the afternoon session, but again I was last to leave.
The afternoon was much kinder to me, the clues a little trickier, but achieved everything as planned, I was still last to the finish, with a good 5 minutes to spare.
The scores were totted up and announced.
Steve 4th, Peter 3rd, but there was a tie break between Ian & Mark.
Fiona quickly came up with a Tie Breaker distance question, Ian was crowned the winner being closest to the correct answer. And Mark a very deserving 2nd.
Thank you everyone for a great day out, a thoroughly enjoyable event, bring on the next one.
And a big thank you to the Eddie family for preparing and hosting the event.
